Inintroductorymake your mark wax workshop
with cold wax & oils
Tutor Kym Barrett

Discover the luscious quality of cold wax medium and oil paints by working on multiple panels and paper, using new techniques, to ‘make your mark’.

The emphasis will be on the basic understanding of supports, tools, materials and techniques rather than creating finished works. Participants will be encouraged to experiment and there will be demonstrations and discussion about allowing the work to gradually unfold in the process of building up layers…balancing intention with intuition.

Notes on techniques will be provided and samples of techniques will be completed during the workshop.

Kym Barrett – Artist Profile

Kym Barrett is a painter who graduated in Fine Arts from the Brisbane College of Art in 1975 and now lives and works in her studio set in bushland in S.E. Queensland.  It is these surroundings that inspire her to make paintings that evoke a sense of depth and mystery while echoing the marks, colours and textures she is immersed in every day.

Oils, cold wax medium and drawing tools are her most frequently chosen media and gestural mark-making is a feature of the work, sometimes strongly and at other times, subtly.  Kym also works in acrylics and oils on canvas and paper.

Kym has held fourteen solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions.  Her paintings are contained in private collections in Australia, USA and Canada, and in several Queensland public collections.

She was the WINNER of the Rush Art Festival 2016, WINNER of the $17,500 Kenilworth Painting Prize 2014, and a FINALIST in the 2012 and 2013 Kenilworth Painting Prize, a FINALIST in the Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2015; a FINALIST in the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award 2014, Moreton Bay Art Awards 2012, 2014 and 2015, Noosa Art Award 2014; and the WINNER of the Andrew Fisher Portrait Prize, 2014.For more information about Kym, visit her web site
