August to October
Whale Watching
Each year humpbacks migrate from the Southern Ocean to their northern breeding grounds and back again. It's a huge trip - about 12,000 kilometres. During this migration they don't feed at all yet they have enough energy to calve and mate. During the southern migration from mid-August to October/mid-November the whales enter Hervey Bay in large numbers which is a 90 minute drive from Amamoor Lodge. Mooloolaba Whale Watching is a 60 minute drive. This event has led to the development of a thriving whale watching industry in the area.
